Terezín - Theresienstadt![]() If you are interested in the history of World War II, and you would like to learn more about the holocaust , then you must visit the Nazi concentration camp of Terezín (in German Theresienstadt). Terezín is situated 65 km north of Prague. During this tour you will visit a Small Fortress (political prison), Museum Ghetto, National and Jewish Cemetery and a Crematorium. Detail of the tourIn 1941 Terezín became a ghetto concentrating Jews from Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Denmark and other European countries. More than 150,000 Jews were sent there, and although it was not an extermination camp, about 36,000 died in the ghetto itself, mostly because of disease and starvation. About 90,000 found their death after deportation to Auschwitz and other extermination camps. These events must not be forgotten, and Terezin is a stark reminder of our dark history. Your guide will pick you up in your hotel together with your chauffeur and a car of your preference. The journey to Terezín lasts about 1 hour. During the way your guide will explain the history of Terezín and the Czech Republic. In Terezín you will visit a small fortress, a political prison, a place where people who protested against the Nazi system suffered and were tortured. Here you will have an excursion with a local guide that lasts about 1 hour. During this excursion you will see the cells of the prisoners, bathrooms with showers and the place of the executions. In Terezín you will also visit a Ghetto museum. There are two floors of all kinds of expositions (pictures of the children etc) and also you will watch here ´Propaganda´, a film made by nazis to convince the whole world that Terezín is a beautiful spa town given by Hitler to the Jews, where they have their own autonomy, they are happy and they do not miss anything. You can also visit a Jewish Cemetery and a Crematorium. The tour ends in your hotel or in the center of Prague if you prefer. |
